Teamwork is a core value that I tested time and again as an athlete, an educator, a father, and an entrepreneur. I’ve lead in some of the most challenging and under resourced school districts in the country, crossed the most dangerous ocean in the world in a row boat with a team of six, and supported private organizations to win. In each context, teams fulfill amazing outcomes.
LISTEN, FIRST
I believe that communities have the right people and impactful solutions to bring about the change that they want and need. I learned this the hard way. Leading without listening, trying to be the hero, and taking credit erodes trust. Without trust there is no team. Without a team, there is no success.

DREAM BIG, START SMALL
I learned from amazing mentors throughout my life who taught me that leadership is about fostering teamwork and standing for others. I learned an important phrase coined by Steven Covey, that you need to dream big, but start small. Each step of the journey matters. Taking care of the little things will ensure that the big ones take care of themselves. After nearly two decades as a leader in public schools, I decided to apply the lessons I learned in building teams to other complex environments that depend on highly effective teams.
